Rev. Dr. Leroy Sanders - A Man of Faith Biographical Sketch
Reverend Dr. Leroy Sanderswas born and raised on the south side of Chicago. He is a graduate of Burke Elementary School. He attended Tilden Technical High School and received his GED certificate after attending Englewood evening school. In the pursuit of learning, Rev. Sanders attended IIT and Roosevelt University. In 1976, he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Chicago State University. He received his Master of Divinity Degree from Chicago Theological Seminary in 1979. In 2009, Rev. Sanders received a Doctorate Degree from Chicago Theological Seminary. After receiving a honorable discharge from the United States Army, he joined Illinois Bell Telephone Company where he retired, holding the position of supervisor.
Reverend Sanders served as an Associate Minister of Progressive Community Church from 1976 to 1978. He also became associated with Trinity United Church of Christ, under the Pastorate of Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr., where he began working with the United Church of Christ.
Reverend Sanders was called to Pastor Kenwood United Church of Christ in 1980 where he now serves as Senior Pastor. Reverend Sanders was married to the former Norma Jean Holly for over 52 years. Norma made her transition on October 20, 2006. They have five children, 19 grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren. Rev. Dr. Leroy Sanders serves on several Boards and Committees:
